Using various brightly colored fibers, you will learn the techniques to bind hand brooms. We’ll chat about the history of broom making,
the significance of the humble object and make a series of small sweeps. This class is very hands-on in a casual and inviting environment. Beginners welcome, hand strength is necessary as well as hands/feet coordination.

Using willow grown in Kentucky, learn how to weave a Swedish star.
This is a fun and approachable way to interact with willow as a weaving material.
We will talk about processing regional craft materials and why willow is so incredible!
Beginners welcome, hand strength is necessary.

Sweep Shapes: Exploring Contemporary Design John C Campbell Folk School, Brasstown, NC - 5/16/27-5/21/27 

Learn to make brooms of all shapes, functional and sculptural! Building from a foundation of traditional technique, explore contemporary design considerations and experimental style development- with an emphasis on play and curiosity! This class is suited for beginners & beyond. Experienced students will focus on projects of their choosing, refining design, form, and more intricate techniques such as material selection, shaping and twill patterns. Beginners will learn to be comfortable and confident with the material & process of broom construction.
